“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”- Galatians 5:1
I was born into slavery. I lived a life in bondage and chains, a life without hope. Then, along came Christ and paid the price for my freedom. Now that I am free what will I do? Will I go on living as a free women or will I will return back to the life of a slave? The obvious answer is once freed no one would go back to slavery. That’s not always true with our walk with Christ though is it? Sometimes though we are free we return to the bondage of sin.
We have to “stand firm” in this freedom. We cannot allow ourselves to return to the sins that held us down. Do you recognize your sins as burdens or do you seem them as the “fun things” you can no longer do in Christ? You were a slave to attitudes and behaviors that are not aligned with your purpose in life. These are things you are used to doing, but once you have done them you feel guilt and/or shame.
Your outlook will determine if you have indeed been freed or if you have gone from bondage to bondage. A life of bondage is one that is thoroughly unproductive.
What to do: Therefore examine your former life, acknowledging the yoke of slavery from which you have been freed. It is through this examination you will recognize the freedom granted through Christ.
Prayer Starter: Lord, I thank you for freeing me. I will open my eyes and with your Spirit recognize the yoke of slavery. Through time in your presence and your word I will stand firm in my freedom. I will not return to a life of bondage, but will live in the freedom that comes from a life in you God. The bondage of sin has no power over me.
