I’m sure you’ve played a game of hide-n-go seek as a kid. Someone counts, you run to find a hiding place, and run as fast as you can to get to the base before you are tagged! That was one of my favorite games as a child. I wasn’t very good at it because I couldn’t stop giggling.
Then we grew up and, if we are honest, continued to hide.
What are you hiding right now? What secret struggle are you trying desperately to keep other people from learning about you? Why are you hiding?
We all make mistakes and we all struggle with something. I don’t think we should rent out a billboard and display our deepest darkest secrets for all the people stuck in rush hour traffic to see.
I do believe, however, we should share our struggles with people close to us. People who will pray with us, for us, and support us during the process. Hiding keeps us in the dark. While we are trying to keep the darkness from getting out, we are keeping ourselves from experiencing the sun that is shining on us.
The bible says in Hebrew 4:13, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
If God knows everything we do, think and feel why then are we hiding? Who exactly are we hiding from? You can’t hide from God. Before you let the guilt overtake you, think about this for a moment.
God knows you and everything you do and, while he is privy to all of that information, he still loves you. God still wants to bless you, still wants to bring you through, raise you up.
This is not a pass to live a life outside of God’s will. It’s an invitation for you to share your struggle with people who will pray for you so the devil can’t use your mistakes against you. This is an opportunity for you to accept the forgiveness that will be available to you if you ask.
It’s also a little reminder. It’s a reminder that God sees you. He sees everything! Not just your mistakes, but your efforts too. God sees the progress you’ve made since He’s come into your life. He sees your hearts desire to change even if your flesh still gets the best of you. He sees the secret prayers for your loved ones and the acts of kindness that often go unnoticed by others.
Don’t be discouraged if the people in your life only see your mistakes. God sees EVERYTHING, He is the only one that truly knows your heart and it’s motives. You don’t have to prove anything to Him, He sees it all.
I didn’t always like the idea of God seeing everything I did, but, once I stopped focusing on my shortcomings, I realized he could see things no one else could and I love it.
