“Excuse me while I get on my soapbox…….”

I feel like I must first start with a few disclaimers. I am a 33 year old sexually active married woman. I enjoy sex very much. I like to get naked for my husband…….. as for the porn…….does “50 Shades of Grey” count? True Blood? Scandal?….

I don’t want anyone to discount what I have to say because they think I am anti-sex…I assure you…I am FOR IT!! 😉

That being said…..

So many songs are on the topic of sex. Not lovemaking, not beating around the bush just plain ole….”wham bam thank you ma’am”. I heard a song the other day ON THE RADIO by Nicki Minaj….I was in complete shock by what I heard. It was on the RADIO in the middle of the day….I thought to myself: my kids could hear this song. My little cousin (age 6) could hear this song. I just don’t understand why the song has to be so explicit. …

” Come through and f**k him in my automobile
Let him eat it with his grills, he keep telling me to chill
He keep telling me it’s real, that he love my sex appeal”

What I have there ain’t even the half of it.  There is a “clean” version where the words aren’t as crude, but how “clean” can you get when we are talking about oral sex, sex in a car, etc?!

In addition to the sex overkill on the radio there is also a new trend of “naked” shows. “Naked and Scared”, “Naked dating”, and “Buying Naked” are just a few examples.

I just don’t understand why they need to be naked…It’s just TOO MUCH. I am in disbelief. Why naked? Why would you do it? I am not saying that you have to be embarrassed by your body, but it is on Prime time television. They show repeats on the weekend in the middle of the day!!! If that isn’t enough cartoons are going “naked” too. An already “edgy” cartoon like American Dad is doing a “naked” season. Really people?! Where do we draw the line?

The shows on HBO are borderline porn, you can’t watch a comedy without sexually crude jokes and/or sex scenes. There used to be a clear line between Rated R and XXX…now I think I see these “blurred lines”.

With this much OVERKILL teens having sex seems to be more widely accepted. It’s seems to be a “given” that teens in “serious” relationships are having sex. At this point they don’t even have to be in serious relationships they can just want to be popular or “hot & sexy”. They don’t really understand what it is to be sexy, or physically intimate.

I can’t really blame them though. I mean the way sex is being presented, it’s the best thing ever, you look fabulous doing it, EVERYONE is doing and YOLO..(you only live once).

I’m sure some of you are thinking, it’s the parent’s responsibility to monitor what your kids watch. This is true. That being said we are fighting a losing battle. Even COMMERCIALS are promoting prescription drugs for Erectile Dysfunction during the day on the television and on the radio. There are sex lubricant commercials, condom commercials, hell even commercials about clothing are sexually suggestive.

What’s the answer? Honestly I’m not sure. I know as a parent I talk to my kids. I tell them sex is great, but it’s better than great when you’re married. I know it seems so old fashioned to tell kids these days to wait until they are married. It only seems old fashion because of  the overkill sex is getting in the media.

I don’t care who you are sex in a failed relationship leaves little scars in your heart or are a result of scars left there by someone else. I don’t want that for my children.

Maybe if the media gave a balance of the consequences of promiscuity it wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe Nicki Minaj could write a song about genital herpes, or crabs or gonorrhea or the struggles of the single parent.

American Dad could do a season on childbirth. I mean nudity is natural and so is childbirth so I think it fits.

Commercials about ointments and creams needed for when you’ve had the great sex with the wrong person. It could start with a good looking girl at home preparing for a party and scratching and applying ointment. Later a shot of her at a party all dressed up making out with some guy. I think that would be great!!  Hahahha…:-)

All I’m really trying to say is there is just WAY too much sex and nudity in the media. It’s Overkill and it’s killing me!!
