You ever look at someone else and think “they seem to have so much more….(fill in the blank) than me? One…you shouldn’t compare yourself to other people Two…I know exactly how you can get the increase you are looking for.
Are you familiar with the Parable of the Talents from the bible? Let’s take a look at how this parable can be practically applied to our present lives.
14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability.
What does that have to do with anything?
Well…..Jesus is like the man going on a journey. He left His disciples to return to the Father. Those of us who have aligned ourselves with Christ are His servants. He has entrusted to us many things…..think about the spouse you love, children you’ve been blessed to have, ministry you prayed for, financial resources as a means to provide for your family and to give to those in need, influence..to make way for the kingdom. Although we have all been entrusted with something the amount varies from person to person. Why?
According to this parable we are entrusted with “talents” based on our ability. Some translations use the work “skills” instead of ability.
This is great news!!! God will entrust me with “talents” according what my skills. SKILLS can be acquired, improved and developed. It doesn’t matter what your skills are the important thing is you are in control of the acquiring of new skills.
How do you do that? Use the skills you have, to WORK the talent you have, and God will reward that effort and increase your “talents”.
The parable continues….both the servants , one with five and the other with two talents, doubled their talents before their master’s return. However the servant with one talent did not use his skill or his talent and as a result when the master returned he could only give back what he was originally given.
SIDE NOTE: Maybe the one talent guy’s skills are limited because he practices a similar pattern in his own life…always looking for the easy way out, not stepping out on faith. This may be why he only receives one talent from the master.
It ends with the master giving more talents to the servants who used their skills and the talents to increase their talents. The servant with one talent had it taken away and was turned way from the master’s presence.
I don’t know what skills you posess or what talents you have been entrusted with, but what are you doing with them? Will you honor the master with your life by using your skills and talents to bring increase to your life? Or will you dig a hole in the sand out of fear and self-doubt?
Be encouraged, God is faithful and He will bless the WORK of your hands! He gave you the talents based on your skills. He knows the potential for growth and increase in every area of your life.
One last thing….don’t worry about making as much as the next servant, only concern yourself with doing the most with what YOU have…God will honor that.
Well…..what are you waiting for?
